Thousands of music fans were today enjoying the start of the two-day V Festival at Weston Park, near Shifnal.

More than 90,000 people were at the festival, on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border, which was due to start in fun style with Abba tribute band Bjorn Again opening on the main stage.

Festival director Bob Angus said fans were in for a treat. He said: “We always aim to deliver the best line-up and offer something everyone can enjoy.”

Weston Park was rocking as music lovers had 80 bands to choose from.

This afternoon fans were looking forward to an action-packed programme with Ocean Colour Scene due to follow Bjorn Again on the main stage. Other acts include James Morrison, Biffy Clyro, James, Elbow, Snow Patrol and headliners Oasis. Fans were also looking forward to watching bands on three other stages, including MGMT, Lady Gaga, The Streets, The Human League, Paolo Nutini, The Enemy and Keane.

Tomorrow’s main stage performers including McFly, Starsailor, Lily Allen, The Specials, Razorlight and The Killers.

Fans were hampered by lengthy queues yesterday as they arrived at the site but many put on a brave face. People from across the Midlands and from further north kept smiling despite lengthy tailbacks on roads leading to the showground.

More than 160 music lovers have been treated by paramedics overnight.

Police have also made 10 arrests and a further 36 revellers have been cautioned for drugs offences. Another 22 crimes, mainly of items being stolen, have also taken place.
