A woman was pulled to the ground and stamped on a number of times as a thief tried to wrestle her handbag from her grip in Shrewsbury.

The man, in his late teens, targeted the victim as she walked in Castle Gates, near to the town’s railway station.

He grabbed the woman’s handbag before stamping on her thigh and side numerous times to try to get her to let go of the bag.

The attacker ran off with a man of a similar age over the Dana footbridge after the incident at about 8.15pm on Tuesday.

Witnesses should call 0300 333 3000.
