Youths throw stones at cars

police-lights5Stones thrown at passing vehicles on a busy road near Oswestry have led to police warning youngsters that they could have caused a serious crash.

Officers are appealing for witnesses after cars and lorries were targeted on a stretch of the A495 from Whittington to Oswestry. Police said someone could have been killed or seriously injured.

The incident happened at about 9.30am on Monday. Stones were thrown from behind a hedge, believed to be by youths, striking at least one vehicle.

Those investigating the attack say that damage was caused to the front windscreen of the articulated lorry and is likely to cost at least £150 to repair.

Inspector Jim Stafford said: “It is likely that other vehicles may have been targeted by the offenders and I would ask anybody with information to please contact police on 0300 333 3000.

“Fortunately, on this occasion there was only damage caused and nobody was hurt but such behaviour could easily cause a potentially serious road collision and is extremely foolhardy and dangerous.”
