Nursing home plans unveiled

Up to 10 jobs could be created at a Shropshire nursing home after plans for a development at the site were unveiled.
Marches Care Ltd, which owns the Uplands Nursing Home in Bicton Heath, Shrewsbury, has submitted plans to Shropshire Council for a specialist dementia day care centre on land next to the existing 80-bedroom nursing home.
A design and access statement submitted with the plans says the scheme would create an additional 10 full time jobs and would provide a centre enabling carers to go to work while leaving their loved ones at the site during the day.
It says: “The directors of Marches Care Ltd wish to further develop their site at Oxon, Shrewsbury, by utilising the land adjacent to their existing nursing home to provide a facility where persons with dementia can be looked after and given specialist care during the day time to allow their relatives to continue working.
“The building will be a single storey structure which will incorporate large open plan rooms, wheelchair facilities and key features specifically designed for persons with dementia.”
The firm says its plans will also provide easy access to outdoor spaces including a garden area.
The plans would also see three new parking spaces created, although the nursing home says its existing 53 space car park could accommodate vehicles during busy periods.
A decision is due to be made by September 28.
