Staff at the Oswestry Cattle Auctions premises described the incident as petty vandalism but said today’s market was going ahead unaffected.
Wyn Morton, market manager, said the vandals started a fire in the main beef auction ring.
He said: “They ripped some wooden seating out, tore down some notices and used them to start a fire.”
He said added that no structural damage was done to the building itself.
“The fire simply burnt itself out,” he said.
“Staff have cleaned up the ring so that no-one attending the market should notice a problem. The market is going ahead as normal.”
Officers investigating the arson attack are appealing for anybody who might have information about the incident, which happened between about 5pm on Friday and 9.20am on Monday, to get in touch.
