Progress claim in murder inquiry
Tuesday 18th August 2009, 12:19PM BST.
Detectives investigating the murder of a Shropshire nightclubber say they have made “significant progress” after images of five potential key witnesses were made public.
Police issued CCTV pictures last week of the possible witnesses as part of the investigation into the death of father-of-two Darren Griffiths at Liquid and Diva nightclub in Shrewsbury.
Today Detective Inspector Gavin Kinrade said they may have identified some of the people. He said: “There has been a good response to publicising the images of the five potential witnesses and significant progress is being made.
“We have possible names for three of the five people pictured either from people identifying themselves or through others giving nam-es. They are still unconfirm- ed and we are following up all the information.”
He repeated the appeal for those shown on CCTV to contact Shrewsbury police station on 0300 333 3000.
“I would also stress that the five people pictured were not involved in the incident and our interest is purely because they are potential witnesses,” he said.
Mr Griffiths, 41, of Harmer Hill, near Shrewsbury, died at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital shortly after a disturbance at the venue at about 12.30am on June 29.
He had earlier taken part in the Dragon Boat race in Shrewsbury and went out to celebrate. Police say the four men and a woman they want to talk to were at Liquid and Diva that night and may have vital information to assist the inquiry.
