Kerry’s dress is a record-breaker

Tuesday 18th August 2009, 11:09AM BST.

eco-dress-iiGoing green is the new black and Miss Shropshire 2009, Kerry Price, was not one to miss out on this theme during the recent Miss England competition in London.

One of the competition challenges was to create a dress made from recycled products.

Kerry thought of the obvious materials, from paper to cardboard, and then decided on something a little more challenging.

So, after visiting charity shops to buy up their old seven-inch singles, she spent 20 hours melting, sewing and punching holes into them in order to make a 56-record dress.

Kerry said: “I thought gathering the materials was the hardest task so I was looking forward to building my dress.

“Twenty-five hours later I realised my work had just begun. This round of the competition was important to me because of my beliefs on climate control.”

Kerry is now making herself and her dress available for campaigns.

She said: “If people can benefit from my invention then I am more than happy to assist.

“However the dress means me coming along too as it is made to measure.”

Meanwhile, Kerry will be opening this weekend’s Ottley House Care Home summer fete on Saturday at 3pm.
