Shrewsbury Town suffered a devastating 5-0 thumping at Dagenham & Redbridge to fall to their first defeat of the League Two season.
Striker Paul Benson, a summer transfer target for Shrewsbury, scored a first half hat-trick to rub salt in the wounds of that failed move.
He also added his team’s fifth in the second half to seal a humiliating thumping for the Shropshire men.
Scott Griffiths had earlier got in on the act with the other goal in the opening 45 minutes to ensure the journey home seemed longer than ever for Paul Simpson’s side.
