Organisers of Shrewsbury Flower Show today hailed it a massive success after tens of thousands of people turned out for the two-day floral extravaganza.
And they spoke of their delight at the fine weather as it remained relatively dry and sunny, providing great conditions for the 122nd event in the Quarry.
Peter Road-Night, for show organisers the Shropshire Horticultural Society, said: “We are very happy with how it went and it appears to have been a very successful show.
“Until we get all the figures in from web sales and ticket agencies we are not going to know exactly the financial result but just looking at the number of people coming through on both days I can say that it will certainly be up on last year.”
Preparations for next year’s event are now under way – with TV chef James Martin already confirming he expects to attend.
Crowds enjoyed perfect conditions for the spectacular music and fireworks finale on Saturday.
Spectators clapped, cheered and sang along for the Last Night of the Proms medley by the massed bands of The Royal Artillery, The Corps of Royal Engineers and The Royal Corps of Signals, with Shrewsbury Male Voice Choir and a march past of the Royal British Legion Standard.
Saturday was a busy day for St John Ambulance, who dealt with 164 cases, compared with 64 on Friday.
