Ebanks-Blake out but Doyle eyes comeback
Monday 17th August 2009, 12:41PM BST.
Sylvan Ebanks-Blake is set to miss Wolves’ clash tomorrow night at Wigan – but Kevin Doyle hopes to be back in contention.
The double Championship Golden Boot winner was forced off towards the end of Saturday’s opening Premier League 2-0 defeat against West Ham with a hamstring injury after Wolves had used all three substitutes and was in for treatment yesterday.
Speaking after Saturday’s game, manager Mick McCarthy was in a positive frame of mind over last season’s 25-goal top scorer, but the club are unlikely to take any risks over a hamstring injury.
“We won’t know exactly how it is until it settles, but I don’t think it’s too bad,” said the boss.
The news comes as club record £6.5m signing Doyle says he has “an outside chance” of being fit for the trip to JJB Stadium.
Wolves desperately need a striking boost with Doyle not fully fit, Ebanks-Blake a serious doubt and Chris Iwelumo out for three months with a broke metatarsal, leaving Andy Keogh and Sam Vokes as the club’s only fully-fit strikers.
Doyle suffered a reaction to his recent hernia operation playing a planned 45 minutes in the Republic of Ireland’s 3-0 defeat to Australia last Wednesday.
But he intends to return to full training today, saying: “It’s a lot better than I first thought after the game last Wednesday.
“I’ve been back running and had plenty of work on it and it feels great.
“I’ve got an outside chance for tomorrow and hopefully an even better chance for Saturday (away to Manchester City). Hopefully I’ll be back in full training today.”

i was amazed at how well ward and keogh played on saturday . my main worry is that although we have the players to get results in this league , seb , kights , doyle, etc … we need them to be fit at this part of the season as our easier games are earlier on in season . and theyre not . need to see that zubar in to give some pace in defence as well . bit worried to be honest
