Bucks lose to Fleetwood Town

sd3257379ftfc-v-afc-tu-jbThe Bucks couldn’t quite match the strength of big spenders Fleetwood Town on Saturday, eventually losing 3-1 in an action packed game, writes blogger Joe Davies.

‘The Manchester City’ of non-league football brushed aside the Bucks and look set to challenge for the title as expected.

2-0 up at half time and cruising, Fleetwood added a third in the second half before Andy Brown continued his prolific record at this level by netting a consolation penalty in injury time after being brought down by the goalkeeper.

However, the defeat was not totally one sided and the game could have been different had Andy Brown’s effort just after half time not been ruled out for an earlier push.

The defeat, the first of the season so far, was not really a surprise to many and it is now important to bounce back.

We have shown signs in the opening games of the season that are encouraging and newcomers Steve Torpey and Matt Nolan have looked sharp, both of them getting on the score sheet already.

The squad is not as big as many other squads in the league but it does have a certain strength in depth to it. This has already been backed up this season by the fact that Tom Field, Steve Jagielka and Danny Edwards struggled to get a shirt against Stalybridge on Tuesday night.

That depth in strength will be a key factor in whether we can maintain a push for promotion this season and personally I would like to see another two or three additions before the close of the transfer window, although only if the right players are available.

That has perhaps been the downfall over previous seasons, quantity rather than quality although we can only hope this season things will be different.

We now move on to the game versus Hinckley at the New Bucks Head on Tuesday hoping to bounce back from defeat.
