Hitman Matt targets more Telford goals
Saturday 15th August 2009, 12:24PM BST.
Striker Matt Nolan hopes to score the goals that keep AFC Telford United in the Blue Square North promotion picture.
The summer signing from Corby broke his duck in Tuesday’s 3-0 victory at Stalybridge, having come on as a second half substitute.
And he was hoping that was enough to keep him involved for this afternoon’s trip to big spending Fleetwood Town.
Nolan is competing with Andy Brown, Danny Carey-Bertram and the versatile Phil Trainer for a place in the Bucks’ attack.
“I didn’t want to keep leaving it and leaving it to get that first goal so I’m pleased,” said the 27-year-old hitman.
“It was nice to get on the pitch and be a part of the game, and we were pleased with the outcome.
“We were a bit disappointed last Saturday with the 1-1 draw against Blyth, so it was nice to go away from home and get three points – and keep a clean sheet. The lads are buzzing now.”
Nolan has settled in quickly at the Shropshire club and is full of praise for the way his team-mates have made it easy for him to integrate with the squad.
“Everyone made me feel part of the team straight away,” he said. “We’re all quite close and it was quite a small squad from last year.”
* Telford have some hospitality packages available for Tuesday’s clash with Hinckley United at the New Bucks Head.
Packages start at £25 per head. Anyone interested should contact commercial manager Anton Gunter on 01952 640064 or 07500 888739.
