Tracy found safe and well
Thursday 13th August 2009, 3:30PM BST.
A massive police hunt for a Shropshire woman feared trapped in a roadside ditch was called off today after she walked into a hospital.
Twenty-nine-year-old Tracy Gough, of Ludlow, turned up safe at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford this morning.
Detectives said she was confused and was not sure where she had been since she disappeared just over four days ago.
More than 40 officers were involved in the search for Miss Gough after she called police on her mobile phone saying she had hurt herself in a fall and was trapped in a ditch or hole.
Police lost contact with her after 20 minutes when her mobile phone battery ran out and she had not been seen since.
Inspector Simon Lewis said today: “We are pleased to say she appears to be safe and well. Ms Gough walked into the Accident and Emergency Department of the Princess Royal Hospital at Telford shortly after 8am this morning.
“Apart from seeming confused and not sure where she has been over the past few days, she appeared to be in good health.
“Once she has been medically checked, we will debrief her to find out more about her movements since last Saturday.”
Police had been concerned for her safety following her phone call just before 10pm last Saturday.
Miss Gough had told them she had thought she was in the Cockshutt area, near Ellesmere, and triangulation checks on her phone also indicated this was the general area. Music could be heard in the background, possibly from an outdoor source.
One of the last sightings of her had been about 2pm on Saturday at a bus stop in Shelton, Shrewsbury.
The initial search included the West Mercia Police helicopter and dog handlers and a large number of officers have continued to make extensive inquiries. More than 30 calls were received in response to appeals for information.
Mr Lewis said: “We are grateful to everyone who contacted us.”
Miss Gough’s parents, John and Mary Gough, of Craven Arms, yesterday made an emotional appeal for help to find her.
