Sex attack site to be tidied up
Wednesday 12th August 2009, 10:48AM BST.
Work is to be carried out this month to clear overgrown areas at a Shropshire cemetery where an elderly woman was targeted in a serious sexual assault.
The woman was sexually assaulted as she tended a grave at Hengoed cemetery, near Oswestry, on July 23. It followed a sexual assault on a woman in her 30s as she walked along a country lane between Gobowen and Hengoed on April 6.
Residents have called for action to be taken in the cemetery and the old cemetery adjoining it to clear the overgrown trees and bushes.
Shropshire Council and Selattyn and Gobowen parish councillor David Lloyd met with John Ward, cemetery manager; the vicar of Gobowen, Adrian Bailey; and Shropshire Council to discuss the plans.
- Simon Hoare, 19, of Berwyn View, Ellesmere, has admitted two sexual offences following the attack on April 6 and is awaiting sentence. Haydyn Mellor, 21, of no fixed abode, has been charged with two counts of rape and stealing a purse on July 23. He will appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on September 28.
