Plea after attack in the street

Wednesday 12th August 2009, 11:42AM BST.

whitchurchPolice in Whitchurch are appealing for witnesses to a “seemingly unprovoked” assault on a man as he walked with friends.

The attack happened in Mill Street between about 10.45pm and 11.10pm on Saturday, while the victim, a man in his 20s, walked with four friends.

Maria Hawkaluk, police spokeswoman, said they heard shouting and the sound of running feet from behind, before the victim felt something strike him on the head.

The group was then confronted by three men in their late teens to early 20s, who punched the victim in the face before making off, Miss Hawkaluk said.

The attackers were all about 5ft 10ins to 5ft 11ins, with short hair. One was wearing a grey hooded top.

Anybody with information is asked to contact police on 0300 333 3000.
