A 29-year-old Shropshire woman feared stranded in a ditch on the side of a county road has still not been found.

But police searching for Tracy Gough today revealed she may have been spotted in a Shrewsbury pub a day after making a desperate phone call to police saying she was lost and had fallen into a ditch.

Officers mounted a major search for the Ludlow woman after she phoned them at 10pm on Saturday.

More than 20 officers were involved in the initial search which included the West Mercia Police helicopter and police dogs.

When she called police she was unable to give detailed information about her location but it was thought she may have been walking in the Cockshutt area of north Shropshire from the direction of Harmer Hill.

However, police today said they had received reports of possible sightings in the Bicton area of Shrewsbury early on Sunday evening.

In particular, it is thought she may have been in the Grapes pub from about 5.45pm to 7pm.

Inspector Scott Harris today said: “We are keeping an open mind as to her possible whereabouts. We are continuing to search for her and are appealing for any information which might assist the inquiry.

“If any of her friends have received any contact since Saturday night or know anything which might help, they should call Shrewsbury police station as a matter of urgency on 0300 333 3000. We would also urge Tracy to call us or her mother if she is aware of our concern.

“We are anxious to find Tracy and as time goes on, there is growing concern for her welfare.”

When Miss Gough called police on Saturday night contact was broken when her mobile phone battery became flat. She had been spotted earlier at about 6pm standing at a bus stop in the Shelton area of Shrewsbury.

She spoke of hearing music and other sounds which might have been fireworks.

“At the moment, we will continue the search following up any developments which might establish her whereabouts. I would stress the importance of people contacting us if they know anything about her possible location,” Inspector Harris added.
