Saturday 8th August 2009, 9:17AM BST.

Traffic delays are expected across Telford & Wrekin as work on a £372,500 programme of road repairs gets under way next week.

Preston upon the Weald Moors, Edgmond, the Forge Retail Park, Sutton Bank and the Walcot Railway Bridge will all be affected by major works and council chiefs have urged motorists to be patient. The repairs are part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s annual programme of road improvements.

They will be carried out by McPhillips Ltd, which landed the six-figure contract for the work from the authority.

Council spokeswoman Sylvia Herbert said drainage and carriageway resurfacing would begin on Monday in Preston upon the Weald Moors village.

The road will be closed to through traffic for four weeks and a diversion route will be signed. During the work there will be no access to and from Kynnersley through Preston village.

Work will start on the B5062 in Edgmond on August 24 and take up to six weeks. The road will be closed and traffic diverted via the A442/A518.

Work will be carried out from September 1 in Colliers Way, which is expected to take three weeks to complete and will affect access to the Forge Retail Park. There will be a series of phased road closures with a diversion via West Centre Way.

Works start on Sutton Bank on September 14 and are expected to take three weeks. The road will be closed to traffic with an alternative route signed.

Repairs will be carried out from September 28 on the B4394 at Walcot Railway Bridge where the approach roads will be resurfaced. The road will be closed to through traffic for a period of four weeks and a diversion route will be signed.

Councillor Stephen Bentley, the council’s cabinet member for environment, said: “We will do our utmost to ensure these works are completed in a safe and efficient manner and any delays to traffic kept to a minimum.”
