Trio set to rock in the park
Friday 7th August 2009, 11:29AM BST.
An all-girl trio, dubbed “the new Spice Girls” will celebrate the release of their debut major label single with a gig in Bridgnorth.
The Dolly Rockers will play Bridgnorth’s Party In The Park on August 22, in Severn Park, just one week before the release of their single Gold Digger.
The girls have earned rave reviews from Radio 1, The Times and News Of The World, with all tipping them for major success.
They will appear at event alongside other bands and there will also be jousting, funfair, attractions, stalls and much more.
Today Lucie Kay, a member of the Dolly Rockers, said she was looking forward to the gig. She added: “Our single is out on August 30, so we’ll be playing that at Bridgnorth’s Party In The Park. We love playing live and we hope lots of fans will come along to see the show.”
The Dolly Rockers first became known when they competed in UK talent show The X Factor in 2006, but did not get past the boot camp stage.
Earlier this year, however, the group received an unexpected amount of airplay with one of their songs and became instant celebrities, receiving coverage in tabloid newspapers and feuding with other bands.
Lucie added they no longer wanted to be associated with The X Factor, even though millions of people saw them on it.
She said: “A lot of people who have been on X Factor try to capitalise on the connection. We’re trying to put it behind us.”
The band’s album is due to be released at the end of 2009 and the video for Gold Digger was shot in Oxford Street and River Island, in Oxford.
