Bridge set to close for repairs

Friday 7th August 2009, 2:25PM BST.

A rural bridge on a tiny south Shropshire road will close on August 17 for up to a fortnight while repairs are carried out.

Choulton Bridge, which carries the unclassified road between the A489 at Plowden and the B4386 near Lydbury North over the River Onny, has been damaged by a vehicle.

As a result, some stones have been loosened in the parapet and this will be repaired.

The closure is needed for safety reasons as it is too narrow for the repair work to be carried out while it is open. Traffic will be diverted via the A489 and the unclassified road through Choulton.

Martin Taylor Smith, Shropshire Council’s cabinet member for strategic planning and transport, said: “We’d like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this closure may cause.

“We hope people will understand that this repair work is essential and we will endeavour to keep any disruption to a minimum.”
