Land bid hopes in revamp scheme
Wednesday 5th August 2009, 9:38AM BST.
A piece of land could be swallowed up to help combat anti-social behaviour as part of multi-million pound plans to redevelop a run-down part of Shrewsbury.
Severnside Housing has applied to Shropshire Council to have a piece of land at the corner of Moston Green and Field Crescent in Sundorne absorbed into its development to create homes on the site of a block of shops.
The shops in Moston Road were run-down for sometime and there were major concerns about issues in the area as they became a haven for anti-social behaviour.
Severnside announced the regeneration scheme to transform the fortunes of the area and earlier this year the shops were bulldozed to prepare the site for a £2.7 million block of homes and a replacement shop. Now Peter Donovan, resources director at Severnside, said it had applied to Shropshire Council for a “stopping up” order to take on more land.
He said: “Severnside has applied to have a small area of land at the corner of Moston Green and Field Crescent absorbed into the development.
“This application will formalise an agreement the council and will allow the Moston Road regeneration project to use this additional land for the benefit of the local community.
“The regeneration project is progressing on schedule, and is already making a real difference in the area.”
The regeneration project is expected to take about three years to complete.
