The mother of a young woman struck down by an E.coli outbreak in Wrexham has today spoken of her daughter’s condition.
Karen Morrisroe-Clutton is in hopsital with kidney failure after contracting the illness.
She gave birth to son Oliver 11 weeks ago, and her mother, Rose, said he would be her reason to fight her way back to health.
Meanwhile, a three-year-old girl who also suffered kidney failure in the outbreak is beginning to recover, her parents said today.
Abigail Hennessey and her mother Sarah, from Wrexham, North Wales, both became ill after eating from a takeaway.
Mrs Hennessey was treated at home but Abigail’s condition was more serious and she was eventually taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool where she was placed on dialysis.
In a statement released by the hospital, Mrs Hennessey and her husband Jeff said: “Our daughter Abigail became unwell with stomach pains on Sunday, 19 July, following which we saw our GP a number of times over the following days.
“Abigail’s condition deteriorated and she was eventually referred to Wrexham Hospital, who transferred her immediately to Alder Hey on Monday 27 July.
“She tested positive for E.coli and was placed on dialysis.
“We are very relieved that Abigail is beginning to recover, is off dialysis and is eating and drinking quite well.
“We would like to thank Dr Judd, Dr Jones and all the staff on Ward C3 for their excellent care of Abigail during her time at Alder Hey.”
The Llay Fish Bar in Llay, Wrexham, was shut down by environmental health officers last week as investigations got under way.
