Rape charge man in court

A 21-year-old man has appeared in court charged with raping an 80-year-old woman as she tended a grave in a Shropshire cemetery.
Haydyn Mellor, of no fixed abode, appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday charged with two counts of rape, one count of sexual touching, and stealing a purse and contents to the value of £60.
The offences allegedly took place on the afternoon of July 23 in Oswestry.
The case was adjourned for a plea and case management hearing on September 28 and Mellor was remanded in custody.
