Police probing fatal smash
Tuesday 4th August 2009, 10:35AM BST.
Investigations were today continuing into a motorway smash in which a 14-year-old Shropshire girl died.
The girl, who was from Telford, was a passenger in a car travelling on the West Berkshire stretch of the M4 when it was involved in a collision with a lorry. She has not yet been named.
The crash happened at just after 6am on Sunday and, despite the efforts of paramedics, the teenager died at the scene.
Peter Bedford, coroner for Berkshire, has been informed and an inquest is to be held at a later date. Mr Bedford is expected to name the youngster in the next few days.
Police yesterday said the driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released on bail until September 23.
Emergency services were called to reports of a car under a lorry following the accident.
Sergeant James Upton, from the Three Mile Cross Roads Policing base, who is dealing with the incident appealed for witnesses to come forward. He said the family of the teenager has been informed of the tragedy.
