County bishop named

The Reverend Canon Mark Rylands was today named as the new Bishop of Shrewsbury after his nomination was approved by the Queen.
Canon Rylands currently holds the posts of Canon Residentiary of Exeter Cathedral, and Diocesan Missioner in the Diocese of Exeter.
The 48-year-old succeeds the Rt Rev Dr Alan Smith, who became Bishop of St Albans earlier this year.
To coincide with the announcement, Canon Rylands was today visiting a number of places in the Shrewsbury episcopal area.
Canon Rylands is married to Amanda, who is a Prebendary of Exeter Cathedral, diocesan director of ordinands, and advisor for women’s ministry.
The couple have two children, Frances, 20, and Samuel, 19, who are both at university.
In Shropshire today he was visiting the Smartwater company in Telford, a farm near Market Drayton, and the biology department of Shrewsbury School.
