Sun comes out for Oswestry Show
Monday 3rd August 2009, 10:20AM BST.
An estimated 15,000 people attended Oswestry Show, which delighted organisers say was a huge success.
Overcast skies made way for glorious sunshine as visitors flocked to the annual rural extravaganza at the Park Hall Showground on Saturday.
Show chairman Philip Jones admitted organisers breathed a sigh of relief when the weather improved throughout the day.
Mr Jones said: “The weather is vital to the success of the show and in the morning there was a lot of dark clouds in the sky.
“We had a bit of rain in the morning but things brightened up and I think everybody who came enjoyed themselves immensely.
“We have not had a wet Oswestry Show for a few years and once again we were lucky that things warmed up and the rain stayed away in the end.”
The only hiccup was when a female rider in the showjumping competition was injured when her horse slipped and fell.
The rider fell off and required treatment from the St John Ambulance. The service took the rider, who was conscious and breathing, in an ambulance to Wrexham Maelor Hospital as a precaution.
