Monday 3rd August 2009, 7:59PM BST.
A sword believed to be the only one of its kind in the UK has been stolen by raiders in Telford.
Thieves made off with the Atlantian sword after breaking in to a garage in Berberis Road, Leegomery.
Telford police said the sword is worth more than £1,500, weighs 10lbs and is made of steel and bronze. It has “13th Warrior” engraved on one side and a 12in blade.
A Dewalt power tool kit in a yellow box, a Dell laptop computer and a smaller Spanish “rapier” sword were also taken.
Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, said: “It appears thieves entered an insecure garage at the property and carried out a thorough search.
“They then stole a number of items from inside before making their escape.
“The stolen items included an extremely unusual sword, a collector’s item which is believed to be the only one in the United Kingdom.”
Anyone with any information on the burglary is asked to call police in Telford on 0300 333 3000.
