Saints sign loan deal for Abbott

Sunday 2nd August 2009, 6:00PM BST.

tns-11The New Saints have bolstered their front line by securing a loan deal for Wrexham and former Team Bath striker Steve Abbott.

Abbott, 26 and standing over 6ft tall, will be a welcome addition to the Welsh Premier side that lacked a cutting edge during their Europa League exit in the summer.

Abbott originally came through the ranks with Wigan Athletic.

He also turned out for Leigh RMI, Congleton Town and St Helens Town before spending three seasons Team Bath, where 30 goals in 80 appearances helped lift the students to promotion to the Blue Square South.

His arrival follows the departure of John Toner during the summer and that of another striker Mike Wilde at the start of the year.

  • Caersws will host a Wrexham XI in a friendly on Tuesday (7.30pm).
