River cruise scheme may be revived

Saturday 1st August 2009, 12:09PM BST.

Moves are being made to set up the river trips in the Ironbridge Gorge.

Roger Bell who is part of the company behind the bid, Ironbridge Scenic River Cruises, said: “We used to have a boat on the river about five years ago. The boat got sunk by people who should not have been on it.

“What we are doing at the moment at the back of the Dale End Car Park is we have got a landing stage. We are now in the process of repairing it.”

Mr Bell said they were currently searching for a small river cruiser in the US after failing to find what they needed closer to home. A boat already operates on a stretch of the river in Shrewsbury.

Mr Bell said: “It will probably be for the next season, not this.”
