Death crash rider slid under car
Saturday 1st August 2009, 8:51AM BST.
A motorcyclist lost control on a Mid Wales road and slid into the path of an oncoming vehicle, an inquest heard.
Mark Jones, 35, a father-of-two from Caernarfon, died from multiple injuries following the collision on the A44 at Llangurig on September 14 last year.
Mr Peter Maddox, Powys coroner, recorded a verdict of accidental death at the inquest in Welshpool Magistrates Court yesterday.
Brian Wright, from Bewdley, was travelling in a Renault Clio in the opposite direction to Mr Jones.
He told the inquest as he came round a bend there was a motorbike on the white lines and within seconds the bike and the rider were sliding on the road and underneath his car.
Stephen Edwards, a lorry driver from Baschurch, who was travelling from Llangurig, said he was overtaken by Mr Jones on double white lines, but said he got back onto the right side of the road. He said: “At the left hand bend, for some reason, he seemed to brake, lost control of the bike and slid across the road.”
Mr Maddox said: “For some reason, I suspect we will never know, Mr Jones, having overtaken the lorry, braked and as a result of that, lost control of his bike and found himself sliding into the path of a vehicle being driven in the other direction.”
