Pregnant woman’s fire drama
Friday 31st July 2009, 11:29AM BST.
A pregnant woman was treated for smoke inhalation after a blaze broke out at a Telford home today.
Rebecca Mulligan fled the home in Wyvern, Woodside, after the alarm was raised at about 9am.
After treatment at the scene, she said: “I’m okay. I have been checked over by the ambulance crews and I am waiting to go back into the house.
“I don’t know how much damage there is. It started in an electrical cupboard but I’m not sure how it started.”
A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said 20 per cent smoke damage had been caused to the house.
He said the fire involved a ground floor electric meter cupboard.
Firefighters took just over 20 minutes to deal with the blaze. They also sent two firefighters with breathing apparatus into the property.
The incident commander from Shrewsbury Fire Station was also sent out.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We had a call at 9.21am to Wyvern in Woodside. One ambulance was on scene.
“It looks as if they treated a woman in her 20s for smoke inhalation. She was given oxygen therapy on scene. She didn’t require hospital treatment.”
