Pair win election to local councils

Two new members have been elected to town councils in Telford & Wrekin area.
By-elections for the Newport East ward of Newport Town Council and Wellington Town Council’s Park ward were held yesterday following the resignation of councillors.
Peter Scott was elected as the councillor for Newport East to replace Brenda Flowers and Philip Morris-Jones was elected as the councillor for Park Ward to replace Lin Jay.
Mr Scott, Independent, polled 356 of the votes ahead of Conservative Matthew Dove, on 206. There was a 27.6 per cent turnout.
In the Park ward by-election Mr Morris-Jones, Conservative, polled 277 votes, ahead of Labour’s Frank Burns, with 212, Adrian Williams, of Tawpa, with 108; and English Democrat Oliver Healy, who polled 72 votes.
There was a 32.2 per cent turnout.

Not bad performance from English Democrats not well known in Telford but having received 1,000 votes in Euro Elections do seem to have a base in the town. Help for the party would be gratefully appreciated. Contact me by email.
