Child rescued after tree dare
Friday 31st July 2009, 11:28AM BST.
Oswestry firefighters had to rescue a teenage boy who got stuck high up in a tree after a dare went wrong.
One crew from the town’s fire station helped the 13-year-old to safety after he was left clinging to the tree in College Road for half an hour.
A firefighter had to massage the boy’s legs to circulate blood before he was able to be guided down a ladder from his six-metre high perch.
Firefighter Robin Evans said the incident near Oswestry Leisure Centre at 5.40pm yesterday could have ended in serious injury and urged youngsters not to climb trees.
He added: “The boy had been dared to climb as high as he could by his mates.
“He was given a bunk up to the first branch and then started climbing. After he got pretty high he realised he could not get back down.
“When we were called out he was pretty agitated because his arms and legs were so- re from clinging on to the tree for so long.”
