100 premises gain top scheme rating
Friday 31st July 2009, 1:15PM BST.
One hundred premises in Telford & Wrekin now have top ratings under the borough council’s Scores on the Doors scheme.
The scheme was set up by Telford & Wrekin Council to help drive up standards in businesses dealing with food in the borough.
It rates all food businesses from restaurants, pubs and takeaways to care homes and private caterers with between five and zero stars for food hygiene and safety, after inspections by the council’s environmental health officers.
Premises with the highest standards in food hygiene and safety, structure and confidence in management get five stars, while those with the lowest are given zero stars.
All premises scoring two stars or above comply with the law.
Hazel’s Kitchen, Halesfield 18, Coverage Care at Farcroft and Chilcott Gardens all received five stars.
Carole Williams, manager at the Farcroft nursing home in Wellington, said: “I am absolutely delighted, really pleased with the staff.
Platinum
“It’s a tremendous thing to have as well.”
She said the home had also been assessed for a council healthy eating award and had received a platinum rating.
Councillor Jacqui Seymour, cabinet member for adult and consumer care, said: “The website, launched on June 1, 2008, was set up by the council to help local people and visitors to the area make an informed choice about where they eat and buy food from in Telford and Wrekin.
“The site is very popular. It is not only helping customers make an informed choice about where they eat or buy food from but is also helping to drive up standards across the board.
“One hundred premises with five stars is great news for the borough.”
