Assistant manager Larry Chambers today ruled out any late bid for defensive reinforcements at AFC Telford United – despite the prospect of captain Stuart Whitehead missing the big kick-off.
Whtehead sustained a knee injury against Prescot Cables last Saturday which looks likely to rule him out of the Blue Square North season opener against Blyth Spartans in nine days time.
But Chambers insisted there would be no no additions to the squad.
“We are hopeful on Stuart but at this stage we would have to say he is doubtful,” said Chambers.
“But whatever happens on that front, we will go with what we have got.”
An injury update on young Scott Embrey is also awaited after he sustained ankle ligament damage at Wellington Amateurs on Tuesday, but he was unlikely to be considered for the opening league game.
Meanwhile, Chambers believes his team is in reasonable shape ahead of the new campaign.
“We haven’t got the depth but it’s a strong squad and if we stay relatively clear of injuries, I’m sure we will be alright,” said Chambers.
