Nightclub bosses in hours plea

Thursday 30th July 2009, 11:13AM BST.

oswestry2Bosses at an Oswestry nightclub, which last year faced closure because of noise complaints, are seeking permission to extend its opening hours.

Steve and Ros Gore, owners of the Ironworks in Church Street, have applied for Shropshire Council’s permission to stay open an extra hour each night and sell and consume alcohol in the external courtyard area.

The proposed opening hours would see The Ironworks stay open until 1am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and until 3am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The couple have also applied for formal permission to allow the Ironworks to be used for “live amplified music, acoustic and semi acoustic music, the performing arts and functions”.

Mr Gore said the changes are being sought to address claims from neighbours that they have been breaching their current planning permission.

He said: “We are applying for these variations to more accurately reflect what we are seeking to achieve and therefore allow us the opportunity to develop the business dynamically in what is a very harsh climate.

“We are still keen to follow our original ethos of making The Ironworks a space for all sorts of music and entertainment including performing arts and theatre.

“Nobody else is doing what we are doing in Oswestry and to allow us to carry on doing it we must have these planning application variations to address neighbours’ concerns.”

The couple were accused of breaching noise and alcohol rules at a licensing sub-committee meeting in July last year. The application to vary the conditions is set to be determined by mid September.

What is going on in Oswestry first it was the vic that closed, a dance venue going back to the 1940s
and now a town centre venue going the same way. why are people complaining about noise levels in a town centre . ITS A TOWN CENTRE!!!
How many people buy properties next to a motorway and then complain about the noise of the traffic…Please get real if you don’t want the noise move out to the country, and see what kind of response you will get if you complain about the smells !!!
