Dog of the week: Lucias
Thursday 30th July 2009, 9:49AM BST.

Gemma Pinchin from Roden Dog Trust with Lucias, who is looking for a new home but doesn't like the rain.
While most of us are staying firmly indoors in this wet British summer weather one homeless dog rescued by a Shropshire shelter is joining us by refusing to put a paw outside if there is even a drop of rain.
Having spent his life on the streets with his homeless owner you would think that 11-year-old Lucias would be used to the British weather.
But, the friendly Staffordshire Bull Terrier has had enough and is now firmly refusing to step foot outside if it rains, even in the slightest drizzle.
Lucias was brought into Dogs Trust Roden, Telford, after his devoted homeless owner fell ill and could no longer care for him.
After being treated for a medical condition where he had a few lumps and bumps removed, Lucias is now feeling better and is looking for a new home where he can spend his retirement. Kerrie Ridgway, Dogs Trust Roden assistant manager, said: “Having lived outdoors for so long, we weren’t expecting Lucias to be so determined to avoid the rain.
“We first noticed his hatred of wet weather when staff tried to take him for a walk when it was just spitting a little.
“He took one look outside and wouldn’t budge.
“Despite being quite picky about when he will go for his walk, Lucias is a fabulous dog. He is friendly with people and dogs alike.”
Lucias has taken to his new life very well and is looking for a home where any children are over the age of eight.
Anyone who can offer Lucias the home he needs can visit Dogs Trust Roden, Roden Lane Farm, Telford, or call (01952) 770225.
