Soap star-turned-cheesemaker Sean Wilson has hailed the international cheese show in Nantwich as a huge success and said he was proud to be involved.

The actor, who played Martin Platt in Coronation Street, was at the International Cheese Awards in Nantwich yesterday, judging and giving cookery demonstrations alongside television chef Matt Tebbutt.

The event saw thousands of exhibitors and traders pack out Dorfold Hall Park. More than 30,000 people are expected to flock to the site today for the second day of the International Cheese Awards and the Nantwich Show.

Mr Wilson, who sells his own cheese, said he was proud to be involved with the awards. “I was prepared to be impressed because I’ve been working as the patron of the show for about five months now doing interviews and building up a head of steam and trying to get people to come,” he said. “I’ve been really proud to judge here.”

Colliers, a Welsh producer, was exhibiting cheeses and two staff dressed as miners, after whom the company was named, were offering samples to other traders.

Richard Paul, show chairman, said yesterday’s event was a huge success.
