Embrey agony is the only bad note
Wednesday 29th July 2009, 11:18AM BST.
AFC Telford will be waiting on the outcome of tests on midfielder Scott Embrey after the teenager suffered ankle ligament damage in their 5-0 win over Wellington Amateurs.
Embrey, who is a product of the club’s youth academy, limped off after just 18 minutes at School Grove last night and could now spend the next few weeks on the sidelines.
The youngster had previously been told to gain match practice with other clubs over the next season, although Bucks’ assistant boss Larry Chambers remains keen to see him back in action.
He said: “We think it’s ankle ligament damage, which is a shame for Scott as he is a young lad.
“It has come at the wrong time of the season for him, but we don’t know how serious it is yet.
“He came off, but the physios have not yet had a proper look at him -– we will know more tomorrow or Friday.”
Last night’s win saw Telford continue their unbeaten pre-season campaign, and Chambers was happy with his side’s performance in front of 427 fans.
He added: “It was important that we took the game seriously and gave the Ams the respect they deserved.
“It was good for Danny Carey-Bertram to play and I thought Tom Field played well, so from that respect it was a good workout.
“What I always say is that we come here on a Tuesday night, there’s 400-plus local fans here and for our lads it’s better than training.”
Wellington Amateurs boss Mike Armstrong, meanwhile, praised his West Midlands League side’s efforts in the first 20 minutes when they matched Telford.
“”I was pleased with the first 20 minutes from everyone. We all talked about the need to keep our shape and hit them on the break,” said Armstrong.
“We did hold it up on a couple of occasions, but not often enough. But that’s more credit to Telford’s ability than against us.”
