County UFO sighting recalled

Watch the video here: Sunday Night Show Shropshire UFO report

A Shropshire man whose close encounter with a UFO in the county was investigated by MoD top brass today claimed he feared something relating to the incident would happen in 2012.

Darren Perks, of Belle Vue, Shrewsbury, was 16 when he spotted a mysterious black triangle in the sky on his way home from work in the Harlescott area of the town.

The former military serviceman kept quiet about the sighting for many years until he found out about investigations carried out by Nick Pope, a UFO desk officer for the Ministry of Defence from 1991 to 1994.

Mr Pope carried out a probe into reports of a “vast, triangular-shaped craft” firing a narrow beam of light on to the ground and emitting a low-frequency humming sound. It was spotted flying over RAF Cosford and RAF Shawbury on the night of March 30, 1993.

Earlier this year Mr Perks, 31, relived the sighting on Australia’s Sunday Night show.

He recalled the UFO as being about 200ft in length and 15ft to 20ft in diameter.

“It was very defined, blocked out the stars, and was structured. On the two rear points of the triangle I noticed a faint red or orange-coloured glow and at the front the triangle was omitting a brilliant white light, and this was moving back and forth as if was looking for something.”

Mr Perks added: “The triangle was moving very slowly, I would say about walking speed, and I could hear nothing but a very low humming sound that was irritating to hear.

“I also felt warm and the sense of being watched – or at least whoever or whatever was controlling the triangle knew I was watching it.

“I estimated that I had been watching this craft for about two minutes when all of sudden it shot off to the north at incredible speed, making no sounds at all.”

Mr Perks said he had been left with a feeling that the craft would return.

“Ever since the incident I have had a feeling of knowing that the craft will come back, it makes me feel uneasy but at the same time I want to know where it was from and why it was here.

“I can’t explain, but I have in my head that in 2012 something is going to happen and that it’s linked to what I witnessed. It’s a feeling that never goes away and when I go back to the spot where I witnessed the incident I get an overwhelming sense of uneasiness to this day.”

Mr Perks said he believed that the UK and American governments were aware of the craft but were keeping it hidden from the public.

Mr Perks said he also believed that the sightings of a black v-shaped craft witnessed over the Sutton Farm area of Shrewsbury and near Oswestry over the weekend were similar to what he saw.

So Mr Perks ‘has it in his head’ that something is going to happen in 2012. Who knows what else he has in his head?

It’s hardly evidence is it? Are you really that short of news Shropshire Star? Or is it that somewhere amongst your staff you have an employee who is determined to get his/her geeky hobby on these pages as often as possible?

Readers may be interested to know that the fourth most popular item on Shropshirestar.com yesterday was – you’ve guessed it – a UFO story.
May I suggest that if you do not happen to like or agree with UFO stories you don’t read them? There’s plenty of other content here.
Meanwhile, why not follow the link and watch the actual report? It’s quite interesting.

i think the fella is right, some people just don’t have an open mind, my wife saw that strange craft on saturday night along with her four friends, and they all agree it was’nt miltary or civilian, one of them is in the RAF herself so she is crediable.

    Ed,

No one is disagreeing that he saw something in the sky. The problem here is the huge leap a person takes from what they see to how they then interpret that. A person saw something in the sky they didnt know what it is and now believes that something strange is going to happen in 2012?? Peter is right in his statement, it is not evidence it is nonsensical.

I would think most star readers have an open mind. What they also have is the ability to be logical and rational, and require proper evidence. This story does not give any and that is why so many readers get fed up and make comments like Peter’s! We’re trying to make people aware that things should be questioned logically. I doubt many would deny that in the vast expanse of space, chances are there is other intelligent life.

Another point i’d like to throw into the mix here is that these sightings took place over RAF bases. Aviation technology is decades ahead of what the public are actually told exists. There is a high likelihood of other UK/US owned aircraft using our airspace which doesnt look or fly like any of the well known conventional planes. However, the MOD certainly aren’t going to tell us about that.

Andrew – UFO’s might be a hot topic on here, but how many of readers are those like Peter and I who can’t believe the obsession this paper has with them, and who hope we’re going to get some credible accounts of sightings (IE more than one person detailing a sighting) /proper photographs/some more scientific analysis on the subject.

if you actually take the time to read reviews and look at footage regarding this subject you will see, that not only does it still remain, unexplained, but that the military in both the uk and the united states do not know who operates or where this craft comes from.
the MOD would not go to lengths to investigate such matters if thet were not concerned.
everybody has an opinion and the right to an open mind on this subject.
the bottom line is that nobody knows whats going on and until we do then this subject will remain highly criticised.

It makes a nice change for this sort of story to be repored sensibly.

There are thousands of UFO sightings every year unyet the Government says that tey are not investigated. They are hiding things about these visitors but people are so brainwashed by the TV that they don’t care.

It’s important that these issues are brought to the publics attention. What if the Government is hiding secret technlogies that could make our lives better? Do you think they’d give the population technologies of “free energy” or “miracle like health fixes”….? I don’t think so – They want people to be slaves to the system without realising it – they want you to work hard, pay taxes on everything. Die on time.

The Governments have got these things.

They have been hiding things for decades.

    Don’t believe me?

Do your research before forming an ill-educated opinion.

Start by googling “the disclosure project” – A group (500+) of ex-sevicemen who are trying to expose what the governments have been keeping secret. These people witnessed things. Hear their stories, old war veterans, people in charge of nuclear missiles – not silly people.

Stop being brainwashed into thinking this is all science fiction.

And if you are skeptical after doing some research I’ll leave you with one thing to contemplate…

We live in a world where eye-witness reports can put people in jail… in a world where people blindly believe in God (without any evidence)… Unyet people doubt the existence of Aliens/UFOs despite the thousands of sightings…? Something doesn’t add up!!!

There have been over 11,000 reported sightings of UFOs since the fifties…

    How many sightings of God?

Jack – I don’t know if you’ve noticed but our “stealth” aircraft make big whoosing noises as a result of their massive jet angines and have to maintain a high rate of forward momentum in order to keep them airborne. They do not hover silently and examine Shropshire in detail (neither do they stop off to surgically remove organs from farm animals as happens regularly in our county).

Of course there are other intelligent beings out there in our galaxy to whom we appear primitive given our few thousand years of evolution. They will make proper contact one day soon.

    Stephen Owens,

The fact that you and others feel the need to resort to juvenile insults rather than present any facts to support your beliefs will doubtless allow the readers to draw their own conclusions about the depth of our respective minds.

Again, there is this strange mention of train-spotting and toy cars – I have no interest in or involvement with either – I wonder is this a product of an over-fertile imagination on your part?

I suppose that with regard to those who are train-spotters, at least their hobby involves tangible objects, rather than a mish-mash of blurred photographs and conspiacy theories, so on that basis they are perhaps marginally less ‘geeky’ than UFO spotters.

Many people have hobbies – I like music and classic cars, but I wouldn’t expect these to be represented as often as this particular subject is within the Star – which leads me to suspect that there is someone within the paper who has this as a hobby and is keen to get it mentioned as often as possible.

Oh – and one more thing: the plural of UFO has no apostrophe!

Jamie – you quote the fact that the son of the inventor of the Lear jet believes this stuff too. That’s precisely the sort of non-seqitur that is presented as ‘evidence’ which proves nothing. So his father designed an aeroplane – does that necessarily make him an expert on space travel? Does it prevent him from being mistaken, or even having perhaps gone mad?

Statistically it is very likely that given the size of the universe, there is life on other planets. However, the distances involved are such that it is extremely unlikely that travel to Earth could be achieved (though doubtless the Star could bring forward several ‘experts’ and countless Trekkies who could provide bluieprints for a ‘hyperdrive’ – if only we could lay our hands on those dilithium crystals!)

The chances of such aliens regularly visiting rural Shropshire (without, notably, taking the trouble to land and have a look round) are even slimmer – so small as to be infinitesimally so.

I don’t mind if people believe whatever they want – whether it’s belief in deities, in sci-fi and little green men, or even the tooth fairy. I just happen to think that this particular hobby is over-represented in the Shropshire Star.

the authorities if they know something do not want to cause wide spread panic by just simply annoucing that ufo’s frequent our airspace all the time.

    Jack,

Probably best not to bring stealth planes/bombers into this debate – they were invented in the fifties but only made public in the eighties – imagine what they’ve got under wraps now.

I mentioned John Lear before (only person to ol all FAA flying certificates, his dad invented the Lear jet) – John Lear claims they’ve already got planes that can go anywhwere in the world in three and a half hours – figure that one out.

As for UFOs watch the Disclosure Project and watch “John Lear Tells all” on youtube, it is hard to swallow for us all since we’ve been lied to all these years it’s difficult to break through the brain-washing. Just remember John Lear is already well known/rich so has nothing to gain. He also comes across as being genuine. You’ll hear him say some unbelievable stuff about 9/11 at which point you should search for “september clues”.

If you’re happy to live life without confronting these things that’s up to you –

Just don’t forget why there are so many secrets. It’s nothing to do with politicians, it’s the people (handful of famillies) that own the banks. Power.

    That’s why it’s all hidden.
