Indoor market gets cash pledge

Oswestry Town Council has pledged up to £50,000 for the redevelopment of the Powis Hall indoor market.
Council bosses said today the move demonstrated their commitment to the landmark building.
The cash will match funding earmarked for the building after it won top prize in a national competition run by The Times newspaper and Mydeco interior design experts last month.
The 1960s indoor market hall, which is owned by the town council, won an online competition to be transformed by top British designers Sir Terence Conran and Tara Bernerd.
David Preston, town clerk, said: “The project will be led by a group to be called Market 2010 that will comprise council representatives, traders and Mydeco.
“The design team will be in Oswestry in early August when first proposals are expected to be provided for consultation.”
