Broseley boys hope for brighter outlook

Broseley are hoping to leave their struggles behind after confirming they have the Indian sign over Albrighton this season.
The Marston’s Shropshire Premier League stragglers sealed their third win from three attempts over Albrighton with a thrilling two wicket triumph on Saturday.
Broseley have already registered victories in the league and the Chronicle Knockout over the Dog Kennel Lane men during this campaign.
And captain Barry Hamer is hoping that will prove the catalyst to ease any lingering relegation fears.
Broseley are now 26 points ahead of basement boys Newtown – with league officials confirming no more than one club will be relegated this season.
“It was a massive win for us,” said Hamer. “We got home with three balls to spare and it should have been more comfortable.
“But the win was the most important thing and if we can get a good points tally in the double-header this weekend, it will go a long way to making sure we stay in this league.”
Albrighton struggled throughout their innings and it took a late cameo from skipper Darren Shimmons, who scored 40, to help them tally 184-7.
Mohammed Arshad and Richard Parker then put the visitors on course with 52 and 42 respectively before Albrighton fought back with a cluster of wickets.
But Gavin Jones held his nerve to strike an unbeaten 30 to secure a narrow success in the final over.
Welshpool slipped into the basement mire after suffering another batting collapse in their 183-loss at Allscott.
The home side had posted a testing 225, after recovering from 44-5 thanks to 90 from Richard Williams, before skittling the Mid Wales men for just 42.
“Our batting’s struggling at the moment but we’ve just got to tough it out,” said skipper Dale Evans whose side face a vital clash with Broseley on Saturday.
“When we had Allscott 44-5 on a difficult wicket we had a real chance, but some or our bowlers let them off the hook.”
Shelton picked up a welcome victory after defeating Ludlow by four wickets.
Ali Raza’s 39 wasn’t enough to save Ludlow who never recovered from 34-3 and 73-6 as they struggled up to 149-9 from their 50 overs.
But that tally was a long way short of competitive as Shelton eased to victory in the 38th over, Ben Matthews top scoring with 30.
