Mondeo owners set for tribute to Leah

Monday 27th July 2009, 10:00AM BST.

leah-ford2A procession of Ford Mondeos will line the streets of Shrewsbury tomorrow as a tribute to a Shropshire woman who died in a car crash.

Tributes will be paid to Leah Ford, 22, who died after the collision in her blue Ford Mondeo on the A153 in Dalderby, Lincolnshire, on July 10.

As many as 50 friends and fellow Ford Mondeo enthusiasts are expected to take part in the procession as a mark of respect to Miss Ford, who changed her name from Leanne Thomas because of her passion for Ford cars.

Miss Ford’s partner Ron Kennedy said today: “We are organising the procession of Mondeos to go to go from the church to the graveside. When we get there we are going to rev our engines and beep our horns for my baby.

“We absolutely adored Mondeos and met through the Mondeo owners website. Tributes have been pouring in for Leah because she was so well liked.

He added that Performance Ford Magazine is to publish a full tribute to Miss Ford in its next edition – the first time since the death of former rally world champion Colin McRae.

Miss Ford’s mother, Allison “Dee” Thomas, of Coleham, Shrewsbury, said today: “I’m so pleased that people thought such a lot of her.

“She lived for her car and I’m pleased people are showing so much love.”

At the time of her death, Miss Ford had been working at a nursing home in Lincolnshire, where she lived with Mr Kennedy, 39, who is in the RAF.

She spent her childhood in Coleham, Shrewsbury, and attended Coleham Primary School and Wakeman School. She had a young son, Aidan.

The driver of the other car, Julia Ann Cannon, 56, of Lincolnshire, died in hospital later. Miss Ford’s funeral is to take place at Holy Trinity Church, Belle Vue, Shrewsbury, from 1.30pm on Tuesday followed by interment at Emstrey Crematorium.
