Farr shines in top field

Monday 27th July 2009, 6:00PM BST.

oliver-farrShropshire amateur golfer Oliver Farr narrowly missed out on a top-20 finish on a rare outing amongst the professionals.

Farr finished 21st in the SWALEC Wales Challenge at the Vale of Glamorgan, a tournament just one tier below the main European Tour.

Farr began the weekend in the top five after rounds of 73 and 71, but suffered a wobble at the start of Saturday’s third day where he dropped five shots in eight holes.

But the 21-year-old from Ludlow recovered to card a 77 and followed up with a steady 73.

  • A final round 67 helped Shrewsbury-born Sandy Lyle to a 13th place finish in the British Seniors Open at Sunningdale. His total of 274 was six behind winner Loren Roberts. Oswestry’s Ian Woosnam was 19th after a four round tally of 277.
