Grant goes but still backs Town
Saturday 25th July 2009, 11:28AM BST.
Grant Holt today waved farewell to Shrewsbury Town – confident he is leaving a club capable of winning promotion this season.
Holt has agreed a three-year-deal, with the option of a fourth, with League One outfit Norwich and could make his debut in a friendly against a Manchester United XI this afternoon.
The 29-year-old, who will move his family from Cumbria to East Anglia, admitted it had been a wrench to leave Shrewsbury.
But he is confident manager Paul Simpson can guide Town to glory next term.
“Shrewsbury have got a very good manager in charge and he has brought in some good players this summer,” said Holt.
“Jake Robinson is a talented forward and he has already brought some wingers in.
Fond memories
“I’m sure the manager will try and bring a couple more players in now and I’m confident they can get promoted.”
Holt admitted he left Shrewsbury disappointed not to have achieved promotion after last season’s play-off final defeat to Gillingham, but with fond memories of his 12 months in Shropshire.
“There is always a regret that we came so close and didn’t do it and I am disappointed because the fans and the people who work at the club have been fantastic to me,” he added.
“But I owed it to myself to try and have the opportunity to speak to a club like Norwich.
“I want to try and play at the highest level I can and coming to Norwich gives me the chance to do that.
“I’ve had a great year at Shrewsbury and now I’ve got a fresh challenge so I move on and look forward to getting going.”
