Welcome run-out for Bucks’ new boys

Friday 24th July 2009, 10:10AM BST.

bucks_logo22AFC Telford United’s three summer signings will all get a much-needed run-out in tomorrow’s hastily-arranged home friendly with Prescot Cables (3pm).

Midfielder Tom Field has been struggling with a ligaments injury, while winger Steve Torpey and striker Matt Nolan have also been disrupted by ankle problems.

But all three have now resumed full training, and assistant manager Larry Chambers is relieved a game has been sorted in order to help their preparations for the start of the Blue Square North season in a fortnight.

The Bucks had been facing the possibility of a blank weekend after their friendly with Chester had to be cancelled due to ongoing problems at the Cheshire club.

An alternative fixture with Rugby Town was also called off, but they yesterday managed to agree a fixture with Prescot, who play in the UniBond League division one north.

“It’s important we have a workout so we’re pleased to have got a game sorted,” said Chambers.

“It’s a good chance for the new lads to get more games in, as all three have not been able to play a lot of football and need to get some more time in their legs.”

Defender Jimmy Turner is likely to be left out of the squad as a precaution after suffering a slight knock on his calf.

  • Youth team graduate Scott Embrey has been training with Hednesford this week and has been pencilled in to play in their friendly at home to Eastwood Town tomorrow.
