New chief appointed by council

Telford & Wrekin Council has appointed a new chief executive.
Victor Brownlees was confirmed as the permanent chief executive last night.
The move will see Mr Brownlees, 44, move from his post as interim chief executive at the beginning of August. He succeeds previous chief executive Steve Wellings.
Mr Brownlees joined Telford & Wrekin Council two years ago as director of resources and was clerk and chief executive of Armagh City & District Council in Northern Ireland before coming to the area.
He is a qualified accountant and member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy and has held roles in audit, accountancy and financial management in the public sector.
Mr Brownlees said today: “To be appointed chief executive of such a dynamic and vibrant borough is a great honour. It is also one that brings many challenges.
“The current financial climate means that more than ever, all public services, particularly councils, must achieve even more for less. Our priorities are clear: we want to regenerate the borough towns and our more deprived areas, make Telford Town Centre a vibrant and dynamic hub, address local housing needs and work ever more closely with local people and partners.”
Council leader Councillor Andrew Eade added: “Victor has clearly shown that he possesses the vision, drive and ambition to help this council create the dynamic future that we all want for Telford & Wrekin.”

Does this mean we can look forward to seeing him out and about with a pick axe and shovel filling in Telford’s thousands of potholes?
