Letter: Struggle to be independent
Friday 24th July 2009, 8:15AM BST.
Letter: I felt I just had to write in about the Tesco advert on the television at the moment, the one where they run out of petrol and then push the car past two independent garages to fill up at Tesco.
Well, I own and run an independent fuel station in the village of Minsterley, and if my loyal and valued customers took the same attitude as the people in the advert they would be pushing their vehicles a very long way.
We find it very hard to compete on price (that’s another story) but we try hard to provide a good service as we are now one of the only fuel stations still trading in this area thanks to large supermarket domination.

always avoid tesco’s when they are offering 5p a litre of petrol, their pump prices by magic appear to jump 2p. best stick to morrisons, the country’s finest supermarket
