Village hotel to offer post office services

Thursday 23rd July 2009, 5:59PM BST.

INDUSTRY Post 2A post office near Shrewsbury which closed about 18 months ago will reopen in a hotel in the village next month.

Wroxeter Post Office closed in February last year when the parish rooms which housed it shut.

It meant villagers were left without a post office in the village and had to travel to use services offered by other branches in the county.

But today Jaquie Stenson, a spokeswoman for Post Office Ltd, confirmed that the branch would reopen at the village’s Wroxeter Hotel on August 3.

It will be open from 2.30pm to 5pm on Mondays and Thursdays and will offer the same range of products and services that the old branch had, including the facility to pay bills and claim benefits.

She said: “The reason it closed before was because the existing premises were no longer available so we had to look for a new site for the post office to run from.

“The new service will be opening on August 3 at the Wroxeter Hotel, about a quarter of a mile from the previous site.

“We would hope that the local community will join us in welcoming the service back to Wroxeter. It was always our intention to maintain a service there but has taken some time to set up in the new location.”

Hotel manager Margot Foster said she was pleased that the branch would finally open in the reception area of the building.

She said: “We are delighted and so will the community be, because they’ve also waited a long time for this.”
