Under-age drinkers in north Shropshire are being warned their booze will be confiscated as part of a crackdown on anti-social behaviour during the summer holidays.

Police in Wem and Shawbury have issued the warning to youngsters as the holidays get under way.

Community Support Officer for Wem Pete Elson has already seized his first haul of booze of the summer season and is warning under-age drinkers their alcohol will be put where it belongs – down the drain.

“We had some patrols recently and have seized about 20 bottles of drink from under-age drinkers,” he said.

“We are trying to reduce anti-social behaviour and we want the children to know we will confiscate and dispose of their ale if they are drinking.

“We send out warning letters to parents of the children we catch, so we just want youngsters to know we will be about over the holidays seizing alcohol and cracking down on people who sell it to them or buy it for them.”

He said the latest seizure, mainly bottles of beer and alcopops, was seized following patrols in Wem and Shawbury.
