Bloom judges return to town
Wednesday 22nd July 2009, 11:26AM BST.
Britain in Bloom judges were in Oswestry today as the town made a bid for gold in the national floral competition.
They began their tour at the new gateway to the town, a complex which includes Oswald’s Cross hotel and restaurant in Shrewsbury Road.
Oswestry in Bloom committee members were taking the judges around not only the town centre, but residential areas, schools and even the industrial estate as well as Oswestry’s showpiece, Cae Glas Park.
In recent years Oswestry has won major awards in the Heart of England in Bloom competition, including an overall gold in the large town category and individual awards.
At the end of today’s tour the Heart of England judges were due to be taken to the parish centre to see an exhibition of some of the work that goes on around the town throughout the year to help Oswestry retain its reputation as a town of flowers.
